Let me start this post by saying that, no I am not turning into a hard core gamer. This post is about how gaming has managed to embarrass me. I have to explain some gamer points for you guys to understand what happened, but I am not turning into a massive gamer....yet.As you read Monday I went to a Nintendo party and got a free DS Lite. If you follow me on Twitter you also know that at the end of the weekend I found myself sprinting out to the nearest Gamespot to take advantage of their "Buy 2 used games get 1 free" sale. I now own Guitar Hero and two other games.
I absolutely fell in love with Guitar Hero at the party, mainly because it reminded me just how much I loved (and miss) Veruca Salt. Since Diana had to stay home sick Monday I was able to spend quality time jamming out (and no, I do NOT think that because I can push the right buttons to the right beat that I can play the guitar IRL).
This is where I have to explain how the game caused me to disciplined by a stranger.....
The goal of the game is to tap the buttons when the coordinating color reaches the bottom of the screen and use your "pick" to "strum" the strings
It's not as easy as it looks
Throughout the song some of the circles turn into stars
Those stars are hardcore
If you hit the star notes right your microphone fills up and you are given the option to "rock out" which means you yell something rockstar-ish into the little mic on the DS
"Goodnight Cleveland!"
Now I know my musical limitations and one of them is definitely singing. So instead of yelling something cool into the mic, I usually go with "WOOOOOOO!!!!"
Well Monday was a beautiful day and I decided to air out the house by opening the windows and putting up the screen. Sitting on the couch, next to an open window, becoming a Rock GOD (on Easy mode), what could be better?
So there I am strumming away when my "microphone" fills up and I am told to "rock out"
"Wooooo!"
"Excuse me?!"
"......"
I look out the window and there is middle age lady looking around on my sidewalk, but since I have a crowd on my DS that will get ugly if I screw up I dive back into the game.
"Wooooooo!"
"I know you are in there! Where are your manners?!"
I look outside and see the lady standing there with her hands on her hips, glaring at my house. Even her little dog was glaring at the house. She couldn't see inside but she knew where the sounds was coming from.
"Sorry Ma'am!"
"Is your mother home?"
".....I am the mother of the house...."
"Oh you can't fool me!"
"No really!"
"If that's true, what kind of a mother are you that you are whistling at ladies?!"
I almost told her that I was playing a video game, but I don't think it would have helped my case.....
"I'm sorry!"
"Well you better be!" With that she started walking again, satisfied that she had saved society from another evil whistler. As soon as she was out of sight my brain caught up to the situation and started suggesting witty comebacks. I mumbled them as I went back to my game.
They didn't make me feel any better.
UPDATE- After writing this I discovered that you didn't even have to yell to "rock out", you could just blow on the mic....I spent the day yelling for no reason.....

This story is hilarious. I thought about getting guitar hero for my flight to L.A. tomorrow, but I was afraid that yelling, "Rock on!" during the flight would freak people out.
I cannot play games like Guitar Hero or Dance, Dance with that whole match and line up thingy. I can see well enough, but I cannot coordinate right to save my life! And forget about softball! I cannot line the damn bat up with the ball ... ever!
What the hell are you whistling at old ladies for? She was wearing a hot tracksuit wasn't she?
I'm going to be honest with you and let you know that I didn't even get past the video. I'll go back and read, I swear! I just wanted to say that I am so jealous of Diana's hooker shoes (that's what my dad called them)... I wasn't allowed to have them. I'd be strutting too.

it's not even funny how horrible i am at guitar hero. i'm so bad it's slightly ridiculous, oy.
Hahaha, that is awesome! I played the guitar on rockband tonight at a friends house. It was so much fun!! I already can't wait to go back and play again.
My neighbor plays guitar hero all the time and he gets so into it that the building shakes when he "rocks out." Now I'm tempted to give him the mini version so he'll jump around less.
I have to admit, I'm an adult and totally still strut. Those heels are hot.
Oh and tell Diana it's not nice to taunt Auntie Jess (yes, we're that formal) with the Filet O'Fish song. That's not very nice...at all.
lol!!! Kind of arrogant of the lady, who I picture as really, really old with blue hair and a very floral polyester blouse on with turquoise slacks, to think she was hot enough to get whistled... :D
